Little Friends - SwampThing and Man-Thing by darrenrawlings Little Friends - SwampThing and Man-Thing by darrenrawlings
Seriously, some of these characters are just too similar! I mean, come on... I came up with a new unique character today... he's a creature that come from the swamp!... I'll call him Swamp Thing... no, Man-Thing... no no, Green Plant Man Creature Thing. ...you know what I mean.

Ha , so cute. Man Thing is one of my favorites. :) I love his kind of weirdness.

I love the paralells you are drawing!!!
I already thought of this one, but it is true that they are very very similar!! they should rather develop one same character instead of making copies...

If they re-did an "Amalagam universe" crossover would there be a difference ?

Actually, both of the characters appeared so close to each other that there is no possibility either was a rip-off of the other.

Instead, they both come from the 1942 muck monster, The Heap, recognized to be the very first muck monster (with Theodore Sturgeon's 1948 muck monster short story "It" as the second).

The reason they might seem unoriginal to you today is due to all the muck monsters and bog beasts inspired in the years since they came out in the earliest 1970s, but for the time, they were an original reintroduction of a rare idea, and at the time, to name a creature with the apellation "Thing" instead of "Man" or "Woman" was unusual.

Funny thing is, some characters were created by the same person (usually Jack Kirby!)

I didn't know that. :) that DOES explain why many of them look similar between the two comic empires.
